Welcome to the website of
Holy Faith Sisters - Trinidad
websis1   We, the Sisters of the Holy Faith welcome you to this website for the Trinidad Region. Our Holy Faith congregation already has an international website at www.holyfaithsisters.net giving details of our life and ministries in Ireland, Trinidad, United States, New Zealand and Australia. This site, however, gives us the opportunity to focus in a deeper way on our Holy Faith call with our colleagues here in Trinidad.

Many visiting this website will know us already ... some of you will be meeting us for the first time. You are all most welcome and thank you for visiting our website. We hope you enjoy learning about our Holy Faith spirit and heritage and how we are living it out today.

Who we are
Our congregation was founded in Ireland in the mid-nineteenth century at a time of great hardship when famine had swept the country. Margaret Aylward, our foundress, sought to preserve the gift of faith particularly in the destitute child and to educate the poor to have fulfilment in life. She had a profound appreciation of family life and strengthened the family unit through providing means of livelihood to upbuild home life.
Community and Prayer
As Holy Faith Sisters we are called to live our vowed life in community. Margaret Aylward desired that the lives of her sisters would be marked by the virtues of Humility, Simplicity, Faith and Charity and be rooted in Prayer, the practice of Discernment and the Eucharist.
prayer
We treasure the core community values of sharing our lives and prayer - prayer which supports us in ministry and prayer for the needs of the Church and the world.
Following Jesus Christ, we seek to be symbols of hope, justice and compassion. Trust, respect, integrity, hospitality and care for all are at the heart of our community living.
Coming to Trinidad
The first sisters came to Trinidad in 1947 to teach in St. Theresa's Intermediate School, Woodbrook. In the following years the work of the sisters spread to Couva, Siparia, Sangre Grande, Penal, Matelot, Valencia and Diego Martin.
Today the ministries of Holy Faith in Trinidad are very varied but all take their inspiration from the vision of Margaret Aylward:

Holy Faith Family
During the last sixty years there has been a strong association between the sisters and Partners in Ministry as we work together in our schools, parishes and other ministries tending to the needs of those we are called to serve. We value our Holy Faith Associates who have made a commitment to journey together in faith with the Holy Faith Sisters. In all we do, we are supported and encouraged by the members of our Prayer Network.
