  The Beginnings ... The Growth
Sr. Denise Thomas
Sr. Denise Thomas

The call of God for Sisters of the Holy Faith to leave Ireland and come to Trinidad in 1947 was initially to a ministry in the educational field, teaching in St. Theresa's Intermediate School, Woodbrook. Seven Holy Faith schools opened within the following twenty years.
Sisters also taught in Matelot and in the government Tranquillity and North Eastern Colleges for various periods of time. Sr. Denise Thomas is a member of staff at present in the government Catholic primary school for boys in Diego Martin.
  Sowing Seeds ... New Directions
Some of the ministries above were answering the needs of a season - we were called to sow and plant but in many cases the building of more government schools brought changes of direction:

*
St. Catherine's Girls' High School, Sangre Grande [1962-1978]: For 16 years this school was a blessing to the young girls of the area who no longer had to travel to Arima and Port of Spain for secondary education.
  * Our Lady of Loreto High School, Port of Spain [1962-1980] provided for the needs of students who could not gain admittance to Secondary Schools.
  * Matelot [1983-1998]: During Sr. Rosario Hackshaw's time in Matelot, education took on a new and wider meaning. As Principal, she rebuilt the primary school, brought secondary education to the village and added boat-building to the curriculum. Education was not just school-based but intimately connected to the overall development of the community. Sr. Pacelli taught there for two years also.
  * St. Brigid's Primary School, Siparia: Sisters taught in Siparia from 1954 to 1993 and continue to live there. They are now involved in catechetical and social outreach ministries and in the parish.
  *
St. Theresa's, Woodbrook: Sisters were teaching in St. Theresa's School until the mid-eighties. They still live in Woodbrook, are involved in the parish and in catechetical and social justice ministries.

Our Educational Involvement Today

St. Monica's Preparatory School, Dundonald Street, POS

For over forty years St. Monica's had a Holy Faith Principal. Since 2001 it is in the capable hands of Mrs. Ann Grant Clarke and her dedicated staff and sisters serve on the Board of Management.

Hurrah! for St. Monica's Prep -  Not one of us here out of step.
In our uniforms smart, we're proud to be seen,
in our colours of grey, white and green!
St. Monica's pupils
Today, we the staff and students at S.M.P still keep our step with that sense of pride that is felt the moment one interacts with us - in our school environment, at our Sports Day, at our numerous performances in our Cultural Centre.
Our school song also contains the line: "And to God and our country be true."  We are guided to live these words through all the catchphrases the pupils themselves have composed from the letters SMP: Say More Prayers!  ...   Spread More Peace!  ...  Show More Perseverance!  ... Smile at More People!  ...   Save My Planet! ...
Our mascot, Theo the friendly lion, was introduced by Sr. Eunan, principal for many years. He guides us to be strong, yet gentle and his murals grace the walls of our school.
"And so with one voice let us all shout aloud: of St. Monica's Prep. we are proud!"

St. Bernadette's Preparatory School, St. Ann's, POS

St. Bernadette's Preparatory
St. Bernadette's opened in 1962 and Sr. Janice Tam is its present principal. Sisters also serve on the Board of Management.
St. Bernadette's Prep is the school of our choice,
We are proud to announce it in a very loud voice.
From Junior Infants we do our best,
So that we'll all excel at our final test.
At St. Bernadette's there is a family environment - a home away from home. The members of staff are also like a family, loyal to one another. They work as a team, creative and multi-talented.
Sr. Janice and pupils
Our school population is diverse and culturally rich. Our children are like a rainbow, mixed races. We work with all mixed abilities, creating an environment to bring out the best in each child. We give all the pupils a good foundation - academic, spiritual, social, emotional, physical and creative, which enables them to excel later in life.

Our Faith is the victory that overcomes the world,
Discipline and respect are some of our goals.
Striving for excellence in all that we do,
Our teachers' motivation makes our dreams come true!
