Social Justice
Credo Foundation for Justice
Credo Foundation for Justice was founded in 1993 by Sisters and Associates with a twin aim: to work with and develop opportunities for socially displaced children and to educate so that people are more aware of and informed about social justice and its responsibilities.   Sr. Roberta, Executive Director
Sr. Roberta O'Flaherty is the Executive Director of this foundation. Sr. Juliet Rajah is a member of the Board of Directors and is also accountant and financial advisor.
Credo justice leaflets
Over the years Credo Foundation for Justice has made its voice heard on key social justice issues. Credo's research into the plight of children on the streets led to the foundation of three centres where we hope not only to develop each child's potential, but to make an impact on the overall systemic problem of homelessness and violence. The centre's programmes are models of good practice that challenge existing patterns.
When every child is a child of love, born free in a justice world,
when every child is a child of hope, whose dreams like wings unfurl ...
when every child is a child the world lifts up -
then the mission will be complete!

The Credo Centres
1 Credo Drop-in and Development Centre
The first Credo Centre was opened in 1997 in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development.  The centre which serves boys who live and/or work on the streets, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Its drop-in service offers a safe sanctuary from the horrors of the street, basic physical needs of food and clothing, counselling and emergency night accommodation..   Credo Centre

For those boys who are ready to settle, the centre offers a full developmental programme, counselling, the opportunity to return to school and a chance, where possible, to be reunited with their family. Parent/Family Empowerment Programmes are also offered.

Credo building destroyed by fire
In May 2007, due to an electrical fault, Credo Centre suffered a disastrous fire and was burned down. The young people are now in temporary rented accommodation which is inadequate for their needs.
Our urgent requirement at this time is to obtain a site and the finance to rebuild this Centre for these young people, so much in need of assistance to make a fresh start in life.

2 Credo Aylward House
Credo Aylward House is a transitional centre, offering a two-year Independent Living Skills Programme, designed to help the youths prepare for independent living.   Computer class at Credo Aylward House
Residents continue in secondary education or pursue occupational training. Aylward House seeks to act as a catalyst in transitional housing and produce young men worthy of taking their place as disciplined, employable citizens. Counselling and parent empowerment programmes also continue in this centre.

3 Sophia House
Sophia House residents   Sophia House opened in 2004 for the empowerment of young girls 'on the streets' or living in abusive circumstances. It offers a safe haven providing love, care, attention and security and works towards re-instatement, social conformity and productive citizenship.
The centre caters for girls aged 10-17 years. Like the other centres, there is remedial help with academics, a full developmental programme, training in income-generating skills, counselling and parent empowerment.
